SMaSH Kits

The acronym SMaSH is made up of the initials of the English words Single Malt and Single Hop. As the name suggests, it uses only one type of malt and one type of hop. This type of beer is commonly used for testing aroma hops. Often these hops are added as whirlpool or cold hops to retain most of the valuable aroma components. If you want to test what a particular hop can do, you should brew an SMaSH. These beers are mostly categorised as IPAs, so they make excellent accompaniments to even a barbecue.

Recipe packs are supplied with a neutral yeast, putting the emphasis on the hop flavours. The uniqueness of the recipes is that we add the same recipe to each recipe pack. Precisely to make the hops comparable.

You should substitute the 200g of hops in the exact recipe with the hops of your choice, e.g. Galaxy and other strong hops do not need bittering hops in the beer, as the end result will be too bitter. Generally speaking, for SMaSH recipes with an alpha acid content above 10%, you should not add Magnum at the start of the boil.
