Hop oils are hop products that contain very high levels of hop oils. They are available under several trade names, the best known of which is Spectrum.
Why are they good?
- During cold hopping, less oxygen dissolves into the beer.
- It reduces hop creep in the beer.
- Compared to standard T90 hop pellets, the ratio is 1:5 or 1:8.
- Dosage: 0.6–1 g/l
- When to add to the beer:
- At the start of fermentation; this promotes biotransformation whilst minimising the risk of oxidation.
- As a cold-hopped beer, you’ll get a real flavour explosion.
